How to choose the right fastener for your tool and for your project
Grip-Rite's color-coded packaging and labeling takes the guesswork out of matching a fastener to a tool and a fastener to the project.
A color-coded band around the bottom of each box identifies the type of fastener (framing, roofing, finish, or staples).
  • Framing nails -Red band
  • Roofing nails - Gray band
  • Staples - Blue band
  • Finishing Brads - Green band
The background color of each Grip-Rite Collated Fastener label identifies what type of project the fastener is designed for, while the label color stripe identifies the style of tool the fastener will fit.
The "new" treated lumber
Many woods are treated with chemicals to prevent rot and insect infestation, and these chemicals can also corrode fasteners. Due to safety concerns, chromated copper arsenate (CCA)-treated lumber has been replaced by other chemical lumber treatments, some of which appear to be more corrosive than the CCA-treatment. Only stainless steel fasteners or fasteners that meet or exceed ASTM A 153 Class D for galvanization are recommended for use with treated lumber. Look for the "Approved for Treated Lumber" starburst on Grip-Rite Collated Fasteners approved for use with treated lumber.
Look for the Grip-Rite Collated display in your local lumber yard, home center, concrete supply yard, rental center, STAFDA dealer, roofing wholesaler, or wherever quality fasteners are sold.
Labeling provides specific fastener style,
size, and tool the fastener is designed for.
Each label includes two colors:
The background label color indicates the
fastener application:
The color stripe provides information about the
type of fastener.
